THE LEGACY OF THE PIERS DESERVES TO BE MEMORIALIZED. OUR MISSION IS To advocate for the creation of a permanent monument at the Christopher Street Pier HONORING OUR HISTORY.
A MONUMENT TO OUR community that claimed this space before it was sanitized
As the Hudson waterfront underwent gentrification and redevelopment into Hudson River Park, the specific queer history of the space was threatened with erasure. A monument would serve as a physical reminder of this history.

THE ANCHOR OF GAY NEW YORK FROM THE 60’S TO THE 90’S
The piers geographically and symbolically anchor the most important street in New York (and possibly the nation) in the struggle for the freedom and recognition of gay rights.
A sanctuary of freedom & sunlight.
Unlike the mob-run, darkened bars of the era, the piers offered a rare "city within a city" where our community could exist openly in the daylight. It was a place where we found a "separate peace and quietude" away from public scrutiny.
